Our story
Started over
a pint.
StepZero.eco started the way most good ideas do: over a pint.
Last November (2025), a few of the regulars gathered at the Cotswolds - Small99's People, Planet, Pint: Sustainability Meetup at Cotswold Lakes Brewery | BCorp. The conversation shifted from "handy checklist" to "why doesn't this exist as a proper free tool?" By the end of the night, we had a rough list of the problems worth solving. After properly scoping it out, it was clear we had taken on something bigger than we first thought. We decided to carry on anyway, because why not. 🍻
That is how StepZero.eco was born.

What we kept hearing
The frustrations we heard
from real SME owners.
As founders of a small organisation ourselves, these felt all too familiar.
I want to be more sustainable, but I can't afford a consultant right now.
SME Owner
I could do the research myself, but I just don't have the time or the team.
SME Owner
I've tried tools before, but the actions never feel relevant to my organisation.
SME Owner
What does my organisation genuinely gain from this?
SME Owner
I've taken a few steps along the way, but I've never properly tracked the impact.
SME Owner
Sustainability means joining hands with other local organisations to tackle shared challenges.

What we built
So we built StepZero.eco
to tackle all of it.
All free. All built with small organisations in mind. All started over a pint in the Cotswolds.
Your Action Plan
A personalised plan built around your actual organisation, focus areas, and stage. 750+ curated actions mapped to what actually matters for you, not a generic checklist.
Knowledge Hub
Guides, case studies, and deeper dives for when you want to understand the why behind each action.
Community Space
Share resources, find local collaborators, and tackle shared challenges with organisations in your area.
Community Interest Company
StepZero.eco is a registered Community Interest Company (CIC). That means we're a not-for-profit organisation and our mission is written into the way we operate. Our profits are reinvested into sustainability initiatives, bringing local communities together for a sustainable future, and building more free tools for organisations like yours.
